Weekly Update – Week of December 24th

Basketball – College: Duke back to #1

Basketball – NBA:  Most Improved Player gives car to domestic violence survivor.

Football – College: Bowl Games continue this week. Signing day updates.

Football – NFL: AFC struggles.

Olympic Sports: A bad hair day for a NJ wrestler.

Basketball – College:

  • Duke reclaims #1 after they beat Texas Tech and Kansas lost to Arizona St.

Basketball – NBA

  • A feel good holiday tale. The Indiana Pacers Victor Oladipo won the NBA’s Most Improved Player award and won a Kia. He gave that car to a domestic violence survivor who works for the Julian Center.
  • Austin Rivers will be a Guard for the Rockets for the rest of the season. He will help replace Chris Paul who is out for 2 weeks with a hamstring strain.

Football – College

  • This week was all about recruiting. Here are the top 5 programsThis week was all about recruiting. Here are the top 5 programs
    • Alabama

    • LSU
    • Clemson
    • followed by Oregon, Oklahoma, Michigan, Texas and Penn St as of 12/24.
  • Get ready for some of the best games of the year this weekend. Your bf and father will be parked in front of the TV on Saturday due to the CFP Final Four goes down on 12/29.
  • Bowl season continues this week. Results of the bowl games:

Football – NFL

  • The AFC did not fair well this week with the Texans losing to the Eagles (32-30), the Chiefs losing to the Seahawks by a TD, and the Chargers losing to the Ravens.
  • The Browns have 7 wins this season for the first time since 2014 when they ended the season 7-9. It has been since 2007 since the Browns held a winning record with 10-6.
  • This is the last week before playoffs begin…

        • Eagles aren’t far behind with 8-7 record

Olympic Sports

  • ICYMI: A high school wrestler, Andrew Johnson, was required to cut off his dreadlocks before his match because the refree deemed his hairstyle was forbidden. He eventually agreed, cut his hair and won the match. But it has caused quite a bit of outrage across the country.

Soccer:

  • Arsenal midfielder Mkhitaryan has been ruled out for 6 weeks due to a broken metatarsal. He left at halftime during the Caraboa Cup Quarterfinal.
  • US Timothy Weah is rumored to go on loan for 6 months. His final place is still up for debate but it is believed to be with the Celtics. TBD where he will for sure spend the next 6 months but we know it wont be with Paris Saint-Germain.
