Baseball
- Do you love baseball? Want to know if you can actually attend a game? Check out this guide!
- Indians 3B Jose Ramirez and DH Franmil Reyes have rejoined the team after they were banned for breaking COVID protocols. They went out to dinner indoors which is forbidden in COVID guidelines set by the MLB.
- The Rangers reliver P Jonathan Hernandez will not be pitching for at least 4 weeks after he sprained his right elbow. He is majorly known for his sinker last season.
- Phillies LHP, Rheal Cormier, has passed away at age 53 from cancer. His overall record was 71-64 for his 16 years in the major leagues and he competed in 2 Olympics.
Basketball-NBA:
- The All Star Game this weekend may have drawn less than normal viewers but it was still quite a game. The Greek Freak, Giannis Antetokounmpo was a perfect 16/16 from the field and therefore earned himself the MVP for Team LeBron. He also has the highest scoring average in anyone to appear in over 5 games with 28.8 points. Team LeBron won that game from the beginning 170-150.
- There were no positive COVID tests in the entire teams, staffers, etc for the ASG. #FTW
- Heat C Meyers Leonard is in some hot water. It is being investigated if he used a anti-Semitic slur while playing COD streaming on Twitch.
- Blake Griffin has signed a deal with the Nets. He joins KD, Kyrie Irving and James Harden in what looks like a stacked team. The Nets haven’t won a championships since 1976.
- Vanessa Bryant won her lawsuit against the LA sheriffs who shared graphic photos of the crash that killer her husband. Yikes! Those deputies names will be released eventually as am effort to keep them under seal was rejected by a US District judge.
- Kawhi Leonard wants an Olympic gold and says he will play in the games this summer. Get it boi!
Basketball – NCAAM:
- Selection Sunday is this weekend (on CBS @ 5pm)! Which means its conference championship tournament week!
Football:
- Dak Prescott, current QB for the Cowboys, has renewed his deal with the team for $160MM for 4 years. Technically the deal is for 6 years but helps Dallas with the salary cap voids to 4.
- HC Les Miles and Kansas have parted ways due to the Mad Hatter’s actions while he was at LSU towards female students. Miles reportedly sent female students messages on Facebook, texts and etc to meet them off campus and even kissed one. Miles denies the claims and says he was mentoring female students. OC Mike DeBord will be interim head coach in the meantime.
- Ohio St has paused all football activities due to higher COVID positives. The athletic admin offices will be closed for a week. Spring practice is set to start on 3/19.
- Bears OL Kyle Long looks set to unretire after announcing his retirement in Jan 2020 after 7 years with the Bears. Long did some TV work for CBS in 2020.
- Patriots have agreed to a deal with OT Trent Brown for $11MM for one-year. He will be moving from the Raiders.
- The Bucs have extended LB Lavonte David to a 2 year deal for $25MM.
- It is the last day for deals in the NFL so here are a bunch of deals getting done:
- Saints have franchised tagged S Marcus Williams
- Bucs tagged WR Chris Goodwin
- Giants tagged DL Leonard Williams
Golf:
- Bryson DeChambeau put on a show at the Arnold Palmer with his drive over 370 ft on the 6th whole over the water to win by one shot over Lee Westwood. Bryson finished with a round of 71 on Sunday. No one has broken 70 on the final round since 1980. Jordan Spieth is on a roll; he finished in the top 5 for the 3rd time in 4 events.
- The PLAYERS tournament is this weekend and they have instituted an internal Out of Bounds after DeChambeau hinted he wanted to hit left on 18 onto the 9th
- Danny Willett has tested positive for COVID and therefore will not be playing in the PLAYERS tournament this weekend. He is one of 7 players who have been forced to withdraw. Remember this tournament was the one last year that got canceled after round 1 due to COVID.
- The COVID continues to rear its ugly head even a year later. For the 2nd year in a row, the PGA Tour has cancelled the RBC Canadian Open.
- Phil Mickelson fell out of the Top 100 for the first since 1993, that’s 1,425 weeks. He entered the top 100 after his 2nd PGA Tour win, he now has 44.
Olympic Sports:
- The All-Around World Cup in gymnastics in Japan has been cancelled due to travel restrictions.
- Katie Ledecky went 4-for-4 in the TYR Pro competition in Texas this past weekend taking the title in the 200, 400, 800 and 1500m. This was her first race in a year obviously due to the pandemic and it was a huge success. Ledecky looks ready to dominate the games again!
- Ryan Lochte made his first final in a while after finishing 8th in the 200m free.
- A member of the Miracle on Ice 1980 Olympic hockey team, Mark Pavelich, was founds dead at a treatment facility in MN. Cause of death has not been released. By treatment facility, he was charged with 4 counts of assault and couldn’t stand trial and was ordered to the facility.
- Mikaela Shiffrin voiced her annoyance with the SVK race organizers after they made her wait 2 minutes to change a broken gate before her final giant slalom run. That might sound a bit ridiculous but they usually change gates in 30 seconds. Needless to say Shiffrin did not win, she got 3rd. Petra Vlhova won.
- Olympic Semifinalist in the 1500m in 1996, Paul McMullen died this weekend in a skiing accident. He still holds the Eastern Michigan University indoor mile and 1500m records. He was 49.
