- 6. Wisconsin was upset by BYU this week and missed this FG to tie. 7. Auburn lost in their first conference game to 12. LSU. LSU and BYU were rewarded for their big wins moving LSU up to #6 and BYU from unranked to #22.
- This week ended the 3 game suspensions for Ohio St coach, Urban Meyer. It didn’t seem to affect the Buckeyes too much, winning all 3 of their games including against 15. TCU this week by 12 points. Business as usual starting today
NFL:
- Vontae Davis retired at halftime of the Bills/Chargers game. He played Cornerback for the Bills and has been in the league since 2009. He said he just couldn’t do it anymore. Davis signed a one year contract with the Bills for $5MM, $3.5MM guaranteed.
- Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB for the Buccaneers while Jameis Winston is on yet another suspension, not only rocked his first 2 games as a starting QB, he rocked the press conference. Skip to 5:12 to see whose clothes he stole!
- This Harvard football player has been passed around from team to team for a while. 7 teams since 2005 to be exact, so it’s good to see something good happening to him.
Golf:
- Tony Finau named as the final member of Team USA for the Ryder Cup to be played just outside of Paris (think near Versailles) at the end of the month (9/28-30)
- Both teams are set. Here is the final list!
- The final event of the 2018 season is upon us. The TOUR Championship will be played this weekend in Atlanta. Only the Top 30 players in FedEx cup points get to compete. The winner gets the FedEx Cup trophy, which some consider to be the Year’s Best Golfer award.
- Who’s in: Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Rose (1,398 points behind Bryson), Tony Finau, Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas and the other 25 in the Top 30
- Famous names that are out: Jordan Spieth (he was #31 after the BMW), Adam Scott, Sergio Garcia
- Angela Stanford won her first major at the Evian Championship on Sunday. This is 15 years after she got 2nd at the US Open. Stanford won by one shot after Amy Olsen double-bogeyed on the final hole. Stanford has won 5 LPGA titles, most recently in 2012.
- Tadd Fujikawa is thought to be the first openly gay male golfer. The 27 yr old Japense American golfer acknowledged his sexuality in a recent Instagram post to bring awareness on World Suicide Prevention Day. His claim to fame was that he was the youngest golfer to qualify for the US Open in 2006 at age 15.
Olympic Sports:
- France’s Kevin Mayer breaks Decathlon world record with 9,126 points, breaking USA Ashton Eaton’s record of 9,045 points. To put that in perspective that is .4 seconds in the 100m or 1.5 seconds in the 400m
- Eliud Kipchoge broke the marathon world record in Berlin this past weekend. Kipchoge, 2016 Olympic champion, broke the record with a 2:01.39, getting closer to the infamous 2 hour mark.
