Baseball:

  • It’s opening day week!! First game back will be the Red Sox at Yankees @ 12:05pm. Every team will play in the first 2 days.
  • Going to college baseball for a sec. The Red River Rivalry was this weekend in the world of baseball with OU and Texas playing in Rangers stadium in Dallas. After 2 games, the series was tied 1-1 and the Sooners looked to have the series decided leading 7-1 in the 7th. However a couple of killer innings later, the Longhorns came back to win 12-8!

Basketball-NCAAM:

  • Final 4: Kansas put away Villanova in the first half and never looked back. The Jayhawks won 81-65. The Duke/UNC game was much closer. Coach K and the Blue Devils had only a 3-point lead at half but the Tar Heels came roaring back to win 81-77. Duke has FG issues that helped bring UNC back in the game but it did come down to the last seconds. This was Coach K’s final game; he ends his career with 1,202 wins including 101 in the tournament, 13 final Four appearances, 5 NCAA titles and 6 gold medals.
  • National Championship is tonight! #8 seed UNC vs #1 seed Kansas. The last time UNC won the whole thing was 2017 and Kansas was 2008. KU has been runner up twice when playing in NOLA (2003 & 2012).

Basketball – NBA:

  • It is the last week of the regular season for the NBA which means playoffs are almost set:  Warriors*, Mavericks*, Clippers, Hornets and Nets have secured a play in berths
    • The teams that have already been eliminated: Kings*, Trail Blazers*, Knicks*, Wizards*, Pacers, Pistons, Magic, Thunder and Rockets

Football:

  • Julian Edelman is joining his friends in Tampa Bay. Brady, Gronk and Edelman is a dangerous combo…

Golf:

  • JJ Spaun won his first PGA Tour tournament this weekend at the Valspar Championship in San Antonio, TX. Spaun also gets a last minute invite to the Masters this weekend. He is the 9th first time winner on the tour this season. Last season he missed more cuts than he made and only had one Top 10.

  • It’s Masters week! And Tiger has said it will be a game time decision if he plays. For more on the Masters, check out this article.

Motorsports:

  • It was a big week in MotoGP. For the first time in 2 years, the league returned to Argentina (due to COVID issues) and man the weekend did not disappoint. Aleix Espargaro was on pole and was starting his 200th race in the premier class and yet had never managed to win (no pressure). His manufacturer, Aprilia, had also not won a MotoGP race since joining in 2015. But he did finally break that barrier! He was in tears after the race, understandably, and even his brother, a fellow competitor on the circuit came in for a hug. Aleix had never won a race in any class but has been on the major circuit since 2011. With this win, he also leads the championship! We have had 3 completely different podiums for the first 3 races which means no repeats!
    • MotoGP goes to Austin next week for the American round. Yours truly will be in attendance!

Olympic Sports:

  • The US Olympic swimming trials will now be held in Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis starting in 2024. Omaha has been the host of the event since 2008 with a seating capacity of 14,500. Now it’ll be more around 35k.

Soccer:

  • The USA is in! Despite losing to CRC 2-0, it was enough to place 2nd in the CONCACAF. The USMNT will be playing in Group B with England, Iran and another team from Europe (still TBD).
