Basketball-NBA: Team LeBron won ASG. Steph set new 3-pointer record. Chris Paul injured.
Basketball-NCAAM: A lot less losses this week. #11 Texas Tech had a great week beating both #7 Baylor and #20 Texas. #19 Michigan St was on the opposite side of the spectrum losing 2 games.
Golf: Neimann wins Genesis wire-to-wire.
Olympic Sports: USA ends with 25 medals (8 golds).
Basketball-NCAAM:
- NCAAM season. Tuesday got the week started with #4 Kentucky losing to #16 Tennessee after the Vols racked up 46 points in 1H. #10 Villanova put the same points up on #8 Providence. #19 Michigan St lost to Penn St after being tied at half. #22 Wyoming slipped from the rankings after losing to New Mexico. #7 Baylor got upset by the #11 Red Raiders after a killer 51 point 2H. #12 Illinois lost badly to Rutgers 70-59. That was Wed – then we made it all the way until Sat for an upset in the Top 25 but it was a big one. #2 Auburn lost in a close one against Florida. #25 Alabama lost to #4 Kentucky who bounced back well. #11 Texas Tech continued their roll beating another ranked team this time in #20 Texas. #19 Michigan St lost for the 2nd time this week losing to #12 Illinois. #16 Tennessee may have beaten the mighty Wildcats on Tues but then lost to #23 Arkansas on Sat. #18 Ohio St lost to Iowa who made it into the Top 25 with that win.
- A lot less loses in the Top 25 this week!
Basketball – NBA:
- Team LeBron won the All-Star Game 163 to 160 over Team KD. But the highlight was Steph Curry setting a ASG record with 16 3-pointers and scoring 50 points in the game. Ironically the game was held in Cleveland and LeBron hit the game winner in front of his Cav crowd.
- Chris Paul’s injury could not come at a worse time for the Suns. They lead the West with 48 wins, 6 more than the Warriors who sit in 2nd but still. The West has 3 teams with 40+ wins while the East has none.
Golf:
- Joaquin Neiman started the weekend in record fashion shooting 63 in the first 2 rounds. That was a new 36-hole record for the Genesis. He led the entire tournament and never gave it up. The 23-year old won his 2nd PGA Tour title by 2 over Collin Morikawa and Cameron Young. His final score was 19 under par.
Olympic Sports:
- The Beijing Games have come to a close. The next Winter games will be in Milano Cortina (ITA) in 2026.
- Most Golds: NOR with 16
- Most overall: NOR with 37
- USA Medal count: 8 / 10 / 7 = 25
- Comparatively USA had 9 golds in Pyeongchang but only 23 total.
- The most medals ever in one winter games for the USA is 28 in Sochi.
- Comparatively USA had 9 golds in Pyeongchang but only 23 total.

-
- Golds: There was only one more gold won this week. USA took gold and silver in ski slopestyle. Alex Hall needed only 1 run to secure his gold with a score of 90.01. Nick Goepper repeated silver, making him a medalist in the last 3 Olympics.
- Major Storylines:
- Mikalea skied out of another slalom run, this time during the combined. This was just clearly not her Olympics.
- USA M Curling loses to CAN in the Bronze Medal game
- USA W Hockey lost to CAN to take the silver.
- USA M Ski Halfpipe, we got 2nd & 3rd including 2x reigning gold medalist David Wise and Alex Ferriera, both in my highlighted athletes before the games.

- Jessie Diggins got 2 medals at these games. The first to do so in the Sprint distance and the 30km. She was also sick with food poisoning the night before the 30km. The final event of these Olympics.

Other teams’ major storylines:
- Whoa the women’s Figure Skating competition was a drama fest! ROC figure skater Valieva fell apart after the short program, coming in 1st. She fell on almost every jump. After her skate, she came off the ice sobbing where her coach greeted her saying ‘you made a mess of that one.’ Super helpful. Her counter part Shcherbakova won the gold and Truscova got silver. Trusova landed 5 quads in her free skate (1st ever) but even I could tell her performance lacked artistry. She had a temper-tantrum after Valieva’s performance. To everyone’s surprise there was a medal ceremony as Valieva missed the podium completely. JPN skater Sakamoto took the bronze.
- BEL got its first Winter Games gold in 74 years in the M Mass Start
- GER won all but 1 sliding gold medal – thanks Kallie Humphries!
- W 1500m final B had the weirdest ending – the whole field got lapped. Everyone finished at different times – it was just weird!
- ITA Sofia Goggia, who was injured just a couple of weeks ago, came back to get silver in the downhill!

-
-
- CHN Elieen Gu was one of the biggest stars of these games. She is American but competed for CHN, her mother’s heritage. She also speaks mandarin and goes to Beijing every year. She won 3 medals at these games including 2 golds and 1 silver. She is the first woman to medal in all 3 events in one games. She made $35MM in sponsorships including Tiffany, Oakley, Visa and LV.
- FIN won their first M Hockey Gold.
