Baseball:

  • Rockies P Ryan Feltner sustained a skull fracture after a line drive hit his head going ~ 93 mph. This was in the Sunday game against the Phillies and off Nick Castellanos bat. He has been put on the 15 IL but it will likely be longer than that. He will not need surgery but he does have a concussion. He did walk off the mound of his own accord Saturday.
  • In that same game, Phillies star Bryce Harper charged dugout and ejected in the 7th He looked to charge the dugout and go after Diaz after the final out in the 7th inning and that altercation cleared both benches. The Rockies won 4-0.
  • Shohei Ohtani is back in here again. This time for being the first starting P to make it to a base 5xs during a game on Monday night against the Orioles. That hasn’t happened since 1964 with Yankees P Mel Stottlemyre. You would think that would make an easy win for the Angels but no. They did win 9-5 but while Ohtani made it on base 5xs he also gave up 5 runs.
  • Vegas baby – it’s A’s official!

  • Oklahoma Softball has now won 43 straight games after beating Texas in the Big 12 Championship final. After the semifinals, it was a program record and the Sooners moved to 2nd all time. They cannot lose 2 more games to be considered the best team in softball history. 1992 UCLA was 54-2, a winning percentage of .964. The longest winning streak is 47 set by Arizona back in 1996-1997. Of OU’s games, 35 have been decided by run-rule, 28 have been shutouts.
  • Here is how softball post season works

Basketball – NBA:

  • Round 2:
    • The Heat had the early series lead on Monday winning to make it 3-1 but the Knicks kept their season alive on Wednesday. But the Miami team put it all away on Friday night winning 96-92 to head back to the Eastern Conference finals.
    • In the other half of the East, Phili got Embiid back and it showed in Game 5 with the 76ers winning by 12 to take their first series lead. The Celtics won Game 6 to force a Game 7 in a lower scoring game 95-86. The 76ers haven’t won a Game 7 since 2001 and the Celtics were the season long favorite to make it. Game 7 was played last night as the only matchup to make a Game 7. Boston put it away easily in the 3Q when the 76ers only scored 10 points – yikes! Oh and Tatum scored 51 points alone, the most ever in a Game 7. Celtics win by 24 to make it a rematch of last year’s East Conference final
    • Steph Curry might’ve scored a triple-double on Monday but it didn’t matter because the Lakers got the win, going up 3-1 in the series. The Warriors played a great Game 5 at home to stay alive for a Game 6, where the Lakers won and advance after leading in every quarter. The Lakers started 2-10 this season.
    • On the flip side of that, the Nuggets were the other favored team and after playing with their food (aka the Suns) for a while, the Nuggets got down to business taking Game 5 by 16 and Game 6 by 25 to become the first team to advance to the conference finals.

  • Grizzlies star, Ja Morant has been suspended for flashing gun on social. No this is not déjà vu – he actually did it again! It was quick and on a friend’s Insta but it was still there. I’m going to hazard a guess that his punishment will be more severe this time.

Football:

  • The Renegades who went 4-6 during the season upset the 10-1 DC Defenders to win the entire XFL Championship on Saturday. The Arlington team won 35-26 and sealed it with an interception. The Renegades first upset the Houston Roughnecks in the divisional championship before moving onto the overall best record team from DC.

Golf:

  • Jason Day won his first PGA Tour title since 2018 after capturing the Byron Nelson on Sunday. You could’ve guessed it was coming since he had been up at the top of the leaderboard lately but it’s good to see. Day shot 62 for his final round to win with a total score of -23. Seung-yul Noh opened with a course-record tying 60. It could all be very serendipitous as Day’s first PGA Tour title was the 2010 Byron Nelson and the only major he has won is the same as the one next week, the PGA Championship (granted back in 2015).

  • Dustin Johnson won his 2nd LIV title this weekend in Tulsa. He had to overcome a triple bogey during his final round on the 10th to do it and make a 3-man playoff with Cameron Smith and Branden Grace. Grace set a LIV records low score of 61 in the opening round which Cam Smith tied in his final round. This is quite a bounce back for DJ as he had yet to be within 5 shots of the other LIV winners all season. All this before he heads into the PGA Championship this weekend.

Hockey:

  • Round 2:
    • You almost thought the Oilers would do it after they tied the series at 1-1 and then 2-2 but that’s where their luck ran out. The Golden Knights beat the Oilers 5-2 in Game 6 to take the series and advance.
    • The Hurricanes put away the Devils in just 5 games. Granted Game 5 went into OT but looks like that long first round series took it out of the NJ team.
    • The very next night, history repeated itself but in a different matchup. the Panthers were able to beat the Maples Leafs in Game 5 in OT to advance. it could’ve been a sweep but the Florida team let the Toronto team snatch game 4 away by 1 goal. No harm no foul though.
    • The Stars vs Kraken matchup is evenly matched. Dallas tied the series up at 2 a piece on Tues and took a lead by taking game 5. But the Kraken came back to tie it back up and take the series to a winner take all game 7 – to be played tonight!

Motorsports:

  • This weekend was the 1000th MotoGP race in Le Mans, where it all started in 1949. It was a great one for those of you who don’t normally watch! Of the 21 races who began the race, only 13 finished including the world champion from last year and this year’s championship leader Bagnaia was taken out. Ducati’s Marco Bezecci took home the title in this historic race after taking the lead on lap 11. The French were happy as Zarco finished 3rd to take the final podium spot.

Olympic Sports:

  • It was Conference Championship weekend for Track & Field and because it would be too long to go through all of the results, let’s just go through who set new NCAA records. And yes there were multiple.
    • On the men’s side, Arkansas TJ Jaydon Hibbert broke a 40 year old record by a foot, unseating a fellow razorback with a jump of 17.87m. The LSU Tigers set a new 4x100m relay record at their home track with a blistering time of 37.90. Florida also broke the record but got 2nd. Don’t feel too bad for them though because the Gators broke the 4x400m record with 2 legs under 44seconds.
    • On the women’s side, Arkansas standout Britton Wilson broke the NCAA record in the 400m twice! Once in prelims and another in the final with a time that’s stands now at 49.13. The previous record was by Athing Mu with a time of 49.57. NC State’s Katelyn Tuohy broke the 5000m record the week before conference so it feels only fitting to mention her as well. Moving over from the SEC to the Big 12, the UT women broke the 4x100m relay record lowering it under 42 seconds for the first time in history with a blistering 41.89 in enemy territory (OU).
    • Needless to say Arkansas won the SEC title in both M&W. Texas won the women’s Big 12 while Texas Tech took the Men’s. The Duke women annihilated the rest of the ACC field while the Clemson men won by a single point over Florida St. It was a tight race on the men’s side! Washington captured it’s first men’s Pac 12 title while the old favorite Oregon won for the women. And finally rounding out the Power 5, the Nebraska men show they have not given back that coveted title while the Michigan women took it home as well.
