Football-NFL: Dewayne Haskins autopsy results.

Golf: Scottie loses to bff Sam Burns in playoff at Colonial.

Hockey: Stanley Cup playoffs continue. Onto Conference finals.

Olympic Sports: Lia Thomas gives an interview. Softball CWS set!

Tennis: French Open ends this weekend. Epic Djokovic vs Nadal showdown in Quarters. American women still in.

Baseball:

  • Roger Clemens is making the trip up to Detroit today to watch his son’s MLB debut. His son was called up to the majors on Monday for Tuesday’s game against the Twins. Clemens had 26 starts for the Tigers and went 11-8 in those starts before going onto become a HoF candidate. Kody Clemens will wear #21.
  • Last Monday, the Cardinals 1B Paul Goldschmidt hit a walk off grand slam to beat the Blue Jays in the 10th winning 7-3.
  • Following up on a story from last week, Yankees 3B Josh Donaldson has been suspended for his ‘Jackie’ comments towards White Sox SS Tim Anderson! Donaldson has also been fined an undisclosed amount. According to the Yankees, Donaldson had also been put on the COVID IR list but that was not confirmed and he will only miss one game. He did apologize and said he meant no disrespect but seriously?!
    • On an unrelated note, Tim Anderson is now on the IL due to a groin injury.

  • College baseball post season is set! The TN Volunteers are the #1 seed for the post season after only losing 7 games all season. The ACC and the SEC have the most teams in the post season with 9 each. Hoffstra and Choppin State are in their first baseball post season.
    • Regionals will be this Friday – Monday
    • Super Regionals will be June 10 – 14
    • CWS will be June 17 – 27
  • Ray Liotta, Shoeless Joe Jackson from Field of Dreams, died.

Basketball-NBA:

  • Finals are set!
  • The Finals begin Thursday with Game 1 with the Warriors at home.

Football:

  • DeWayne Haskins did have alcohol and drugs in his system when he was killed walking on a highway. He was legally drunk (at the 0.2) as well as pain killers were present according to the autopsy.

Golf:

  • Scottie Scheffler, a Dallas native, looked to have the Charles Schwab Challenge in the bag heading into Sunday. He hadn’t made a bogey for the first 52 holes of the tournament and then on Sunday he couldn’t buy a birdie. Sunday did some weird things to everyone; Harold Varner III went from being one of the golfers tied fort he lead at -10 with 7 holes to go but ended E. Only 13 players shot under 70 in the final round and Scottie’s buddy, Sam Burns was one of those finishing with a 65. Scottie shot +2 to get into a playoff with his friend. After sitting in the clubhouse for 2 hours, Sam proceeded to drop a 38-foot putt for the win. Sam was 7 strokes back from Scottie heading into Sunday, the largest comeback at Colonial since 1994 (before they were both born).
  • Michelle Wie West has taken a step back from playing golf but she is still hustling. She has partnered with LA Golf to support other LPGA golfers by providing paid maternity leave performance bonuses and travel concierge services, like the PGA Tour players get.

Hockey:

  • Stanley Cup Playoffs continue.
    • Panthers got swept by the Lightning meaning the series was over early in the week.
    • The Avalanche won Game 4 on Monday 6-3 after a demoralizing 4 goal 2nd But the Blues won in OT on Wednesday after being down 0-3. Friday was the last of the series though as the Avalanche scored 2 goals in the final period to win 3-2 to take the series 4-2.
    • The Hurricanes and Rangers series came down to the wire. The Rangers tied it up at Game 4 winning 4-1. Carolina fought back winning the next game 3-1. Game 6, the Rangers tied it up again with a 5-2 score. Game 7 was decided on Memorial Day Monday with another dominate win by the NY team winning 6-2.
    • The Oilers put the Flames away in just 5 games but their final game came down to a OT win.

Olympic Sports:

  • Lia Thomas just gave her first interview about being a transwoman and taking the NCAA title in swimming. She claims that she felt weaker and slower when she had one year of hormone replacement therapy as a woman. However some argue that going through puberty as a male is where the unfair advantage cannot be made up by cisgender females.

  • CWS for softball is set! The teams in OKC are UCLA, Texas, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Florida, Oregon St, Oklahoma St and Arizona. Again the tournament will be a double elimination with a best of 3 final. So if you lose, you can still make it to the final but you better not lose again. Semifinals and Finals will be next week.

  • JAM Elaine Thompson-Herah won the W 100m at the Prefontaine Classic this weekend over USA Sha’Carri Richardson with a time of 10.79. However this is the first time Sha’Carri has run under 11 seconds since Olympic Trials when she set the world on fire. Herah won the 100, 200m and 400m Relay in Tokyo.
  • Finland won the world hockey championship against CAN in OT. Finland hosted the entire event and won in front of their home crowd. The USA faced CZE for 3rd and was beat 8-4.

Tennis:

  • The French Open Finals will be this weekend. But we had two stars face off in the Quarterfinals today at Rolland-Garros. World #1 Djokovic and #5 Nadal battled it out on the clay for 4 hours. Nadal, the King of the Clay, has won the French Open 13 times and will be in the running again. He defeated Djokovic who has won the title twice but was defending champion. This is EXTREMELY relevant as the big 3 (Federer being the other) are neck and neck on Grand Slam titles.
    • Coco Gauff beat Sloane Stephens today to move onto the Semis. One more American is still in but Jessica Pegula will face POL Iga Swiatek, the #1 seed in the tournament in the Quarterfinals tomorrow.
    • On the men’s side, obviously Nadal is onto the Semis where he will play GER Zverev. No USA players are left for the men.
