Basketball – NBA:

  • The Lakers’ 10 game winning streak ended on Sunday with a 114-100 loss to the Mavericks. During the 2nd half, the Lakers were outscored 55-38. It was rumored that both LeBron and Davis played under the weather on Sunday. The team will have to readjust their goals as their main one was to end the season without losing 2 games in a row.
  • Celtics lost G Marcus Smart to an abdominal injury during their game against the Knicks on Sunday. TBD on what the injury was and his timeline to return.
  • Dion Waiters is back to practicing with the Heat after a 10 game suspension for having a freak out on his team plane. He has apologized and looks to return to normal.
  • DeWayne Wade was left defending his son after internet trolls commented ruthlessly on a Thanksgiving day picture after he was dressed in a crop top and had manicured/fake nails. Please no holiday trolling people.
  • Because everyone needs this in their lives…

Football – College:

  • 7 losses in the Top 25 this week and rivalry week did not disappoint. The Iron Bowl (Alabama vs Auburn) was one of the craziest games of the weekend with a interception caught on the back of a player, 2 TDs scored in 20 seconds and a missed FG to tie the game by the Crimson Tide. Wisconsin secured its place in the Big 10 Championship game by beating the Golden Gophers at home. Ohio St showed their dominance over their rival which puts Harbaugh 0-5 against the Buckeyes. Oklahoma handled Bedlam.

I couldn’t help myself. Everyone is excited to see Bama miss their first CFP.

  • The CFP will have its last Tuesday night show this week with selection day to follow on Sunday 12/8. Get ready to see who’s in! Will Utah be the first Pac12 team since the 1st year of the CFP debuted or will Oklahoma sneak in again? Can the Bulldogs pull off the big upset of the Tigers to secure a spot?
    • The top 3 looks to have solidified their spots. #1 Ohio St and #2 LSU could lose this weekend and it likely wouldn’t hurt their chances of making the CFP. Clemson not so much! The 4th spot is completely up for grabs.
    • Utah controls their own destiny despite some craziness at the SEC game. Oklahoma looks to be the outsider looking in and will be huge Oregon Duck fans this weekend. And the Pac and Big 12 are cheering for LSU to not get upset by Georgia. If Georgia wins, you could be looking at 2 SEC teams in and the Pac 12 and Big 12 out of the CFP.
  • With the end of the regular season brings holiday cheer and coaching change ups. Here are some we know so far:
    • Texas fired DC Todd Orlando and 2 assistants, while demoting their OC Tim Beck in an effort to bring Texas back.
    • Old Dominion coach, Bobby Wilder resigned after 13 years with the school. This year was his worst with the school with only an 1-11 record.
    • Ole Miss fired HC Matt Luke after 15-21 in 3 seasons. 10 players walked out after hearing of the firing.
    • South Florida fired HC Charlie Strong after 3 declining years. His record for the 3 years wasn’t terrible with 21-16 but since 2018 4-14…
    • Other schools who are looking for HC: Boston College, Florida St, Mizzou and Arkansas

gameday

  • Its Championship week! And GameDay will be at the SEC matchup between #1 and #4.

Football – NFL:

  • The Ravens are now the odds on favorites to win the Super Bowl after winning against the 49ers and a Patriots’ loss. The Ravens took down the 49ers with a score of 20-17 in the heavy rain with a last minute FG to win.
  • Cleveland Browns’ HC Freddie Kitchens wore a ‘Pittsburgh started it’ T-shirt adding fuel to the fire over the Steelers/Browns fight. Steelers’ players blasted the coach over it.
  • The Texans pulled off a big W in prime time last night, beating the Patriots 28-22. Watson had 4 TDs while Brady had 3.
  • 7 games were decided by a TD or less this week in the NFL.
  • Now that we are into week 9, its time for the standings in each division
    • AFC-East: Patriots
    • AFC-North: Ravens
    • AFC-South: Texans
    • AFC-West: Chiefs
    • NFC- East: Cowboys
    • NFC-North: Packers

Olympic Sports:

  • The US Women’s Surfing Olympic spots have been decided. Congrats to Carissa Moore (HI) and Caroline Marks (FL) for securing their spots on Sunday. They were the top 2 American women in the 2019 World Surf League rankings. Technically the top 3 in the World are American but each country only gets 2 spots.
  • Olympic champion Matthias Mayer won the World Cup Super G in Canada this past weekend beating Dominik Paris who had a 3 win streak going.
  • Joshua Cheptegei broke the 10km WR on a road race in Valencia with a time of 26:38, breaking the WR set in 2010 by 6 seconds.
  • WADA recommends Russia to be banned from the Tokyo Olympics. The WADA executive committee will make its decision on 12/9.
