Basketball – College:
- Tennessee coach reprimanded his team when 5 of his players did the gator chomp after their win against Florida on Saturday. However he stated that it was in response to ‘disrespectful’ comments from Florida fans. The Vols are on a 10 game win streak at home.
- Michigan has set a program record for the best start in school history 17-0, this also ties the record for the longest winning streak.
- USC Freshman guard Kevin Porter Jr is indefinitely suspended for conduct issues. He will be reevaluated this week.
Basketball – NBA:
- Harden scored 38 points against the Magic on Saturday, marking it as the 16th consecutive game to score 30+ points. This matches Kobe Bryant’s streak for the longest in the league. However Harden also tied another record, 1-17 from the 3 point line which is the leagues single game record.
- JJ Barea of the Dallas Mavericks went in for surgery on his Achilles today. Barea injured it in their win against the Timberwolves. This is a season ending injury.
- Grizzlies forward Kyle Anderson will miss 2-4 weeks for an ankle sprain.
- #4 will be the first number to be retired by the OKC Thunder. The ceremony will be March 20th. This was long time number of Nick Collison, who was a member of the SuperSonics before moving with the team to OKC.
Football – College:
- Kyler Murray declares for the NFL draft. He has 72 hours to withdraw. He could be the first person to go in the 1st round of 2 different drafts. TBD on whether he will chose baseball or football but one thing we do know is that we will not see Kyler in a Sooner uniform again… sad day for Sooner fans.
- Jalen Hurts is looking to transfer. You may remember him as the QB that got pulled from last year’s National Championship game (for Tua) and then was the savior of the SEC title game when the Crimson Tide pulled Tua. TBD on where he will end up. Some probable schools are: Florida St, Miami, Maryland, TCU, Oklahoma and UCLA.
Football – NFL:
- The AFC and NFC title games are this weekend. The Patriots make their 7th consecutive appearance in a title game.
- AFC games this past weekend:
- The Chiefs controlled the entire game against Andrew Luck and the Colts. The score was closer than it looked while watching but still not close 31-13.
- The Patriots will play in another title game after a very successful win against the Chargers who came into the game with a better record.
- The NFC games this past weekend:
- The Rams beat the Cowboys 30-22 after scoring 17 points unanswered in the 2nd
- Saints came back from a 0-14 point deficit in the 1st quarter and held off a last minute drive from the Eagles to win a change to play in the title game. Final score: 20-14 over last year’s Super Bowl Champions.
- Most people think this will be the last time we will see Nick Foles in an Eagles uniform with the franchise choosing to go with Carson Wentz for most of the season. Be on the lookout for that news.
- The games this weekend are pretty expected with the #1 and #2 facing over in both divisions.
- Rams at Saints @ 2:05pm on FOX
- Patriots at Chiefs @ 5:40pm on CBS
- The winner of these 2 games will play in Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta on Feb 3rd.
