Basketball: Nets are COVID free!
Football: NFL season set on time and they expanded playoffs.
Olympic Sports: Olympics postponed a year. NCAA gives spring athletes their eligibility back.
Tennis: Wimbledon canceled.
Basketball:
- The Nets have 0 cases of COVID19 after 4 players tested positive. That was 16 days ago and now everyone has recovered! Baby steps people!
Football:
- NFL season is still planned to start on time in September.
- NFL team owners have voted to expand the playoffs to include 14 teams starting this upcoming season. There will now be 3 wild card teams from each conference and the #2 seed will host the #7 seed in the wild card round (only #1s have byes). Get ready for crazy wild-card weekends with back-to-back triple headers so this year you might want to buy another case of beer.
Olympic Sports:
- The Tokyo Olympics have officially been postponed. Most athletes are happy (well satisfied) with this decision as being able to train for the games has been put om hold. Athletes who previously qualified will get to keep their spot for the games in a year. The new dates are 1 year from the original: July 23 – Aug 8, 2021.
- The NCAA has ruled that all spring sport athletes are to be given an extra year of eligibility if they want it (*financial aid not included – that is left up to each school). Winter sports were not included in this decision.
Tennis:
- The Wimbledon has been canceled for the first time since WWII! Not postponed – canceled. It was originally supposed to be held on June 29-July 12. Postponing was discussed but there were 2 problems with it being held in late July early Aug: not enough sunlight and too much dew. Also the ATP and WTA have canceled all events through July 13th which is 100% of the grass-court tournaments.
What to Watch this Week
Nothing…. We are sport-less for at least a month most likely.
