Baseball-MLB:

  • The World Series will be decided this week. Will Atlanta take it in just one more game or can Houston force a Game 7? We go back to Houston to finish off the MLB season.
    • Game 1 – Braves won 6-2 and MVP should go to Braves P Charlie Morton after he was hit by a 102mph one-hopper from Gurriel. He went in for an x-ray, they found nothing and he returned to the mound. However 6 pitches later (bottom of the 3rd), he winced and left the game again to find out that he fractured his fibula and is out for the remainder of the series. It didn’t matter in the final score as the braves still ended up winning.
    • Game 2 – Houston ties the series 1-1 with a 7-2 W in Minute maid park before the teams moved to ATL. The Astros rolled in the 2nd inning scoring 4 runs and never looked back from there.
    • Game 3 – Braves won 2-0. This was mainly due to the amazing pitching job by Ian Anderson who pitched a no-hitter until the 8th
    • Game 4 – Braves won 3-2

    • Game 5 – if you tuned in for the 1st inning, you prob thought Atlanta had this in the bag. Atlanta has a grand slam to go up 4-0. That lead only lasted until the 3rd inning as the Astros chipped away at it. This was definitely the game where fans were reminded that both the Braves and the Astros were known for their offense this season. The Astros won 9-5 to take the series back to Houston for Game 6.

Football-NCAAF:

  • There were 8 loses in the Top 25 including 3 in the Top 10. 5 were to unranked teams. Michigan St and their RB Walker III are proving that they deserve to be in the CFP discussion but they have to go through the Buckeyes to get there. Walker is the 1st player to sore 5 TDs against a top 10 team since 2001. Most by any player against Michigan EVER. Bo Nix continues to find his rhythm stopping Ole Miss. Houston upset SMU in a thriller that went til the final minute of the game – now both teams are ranked. That’s good news for Cincinnati. Miami handed Pitt and Heisman candidate Pickett a loss. Florida hung around with Georgia for a while before the Gators had 3 turnovers in the last few minutes before half. Georgia’s defensive line just looks unstoppable. Texas lost a 3rd straight double digit lead to Baylor. Of all the losses in the Top 25, only 1 team was playing at home (Pitt).

    • Loses: 6. Michigan, 9. Iowa, 10. Ole Miss, 12. Kentucky, 17. Pitt, 19. SMU, 20. Penn St, 22. Iowa St

  • The College Football Playoff (aka CFP) rankings come out tomorrow. This is the first time we will see them all season. The committee will gather and release their findings which usually differ from the AP poll.
    • #GFHint: Watch where the CFP committee places Cincinnati. If they put them in the top 4 now, it will be hard to justify not putting them in the CFPlayoff if they don’t lose. I expect they will not be.

  • TCU will have to find a new HC for the first time in 20 years. Gary Patterson is out as the HC and chose not to finish out the season after TCU lost to K St 31-12. That was TCU’s 3d loss in a row and you could tell tempers were running hot when there was a melee where 3 players were ejected for throwing punches. Patterson was the 2nd longest tenured HC behind Iowa kirk Ferentz who joined the school in 1999. We will miss your serenades, Gary.
  • Week 10 College Gameday will be at Cincinnati for the first time ever! Too bad it is just against Tulsa. But we have a Top 25 showdown between 12. Auburn and 13. Texas A&M – truly I think anyone can win that game.
    • Upset watch: #5 Michigan St, #10 Wake Forest, #12 Auburn or #13 Texas A&M, #18 Kentucky

Football-NFL:

  • Week 8 recap – 8 teams were within 1 score of each other. The Cardinals suffered their first loss of the season to the Packers which was sealed by an interception in the end zone that would’ve resulted in a game-wining TD for Arizona. The Cowboys won their 6th straight game even with their backup QB Cooper Rush as Dak Prescott rests his calf. The 1-5 Jets upset the Bengals despite trailing at halftime. The Titans win in OT. Lions remain winless after losing 44-6 to the Eagles. Packers, Cardinals, Rams sit atop the league with 7 wins.
    • The Cardinals losing got me all like: (this meme is when Aaron Rodgers took a late hit during that game – be prepared to see it everywhere)

  • In breaking news today, Titans RB Derrick Henry looks to have suffered a season ending foot injury. This is huge because currently Henry is the league’s leading rusher with 937 yards this season (353 yards more than the next guy). He also has scored a league-high 10 rushing TDs. Henry went out towards the end of the game for medical attention but returned to the field.
  • That’s not the only serious injury, Saints QB Jameis Winston went out of the game against the Bucs after his knee bent awkwardly on this play (and yes that tackle was a horse-collar penalty). He is out with an official ACL tear. Back up QB Trevor Siemian came in and finished the game upsetting the Bucs and Tom Brady, who had 3 turnovers including a pick 6 in the final minute of the game.
  • Sticking with the injury report… Ravens LB Malik Harrison was shot in the leg by a bullet (not meant for him) after a gathering in Cleveland on Sunday night. The Ravens were on a bye. He is expected to be ok and is returning to Baltimore today. He started the first 5 games of the season but seems to be beaten out of his starting spot lately playing just 20 snaps in the last 3 games.

  • Broncos LB Von Miller will be moving from DEN to LA to join the Rams. Von Miller leads the NFL in sacks since 2011 (when he joined the league) with 110. Von Miller was emotional as he has never played for another team since he left Texas A&M but the Rams are still one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl this year.

Golf:

  • Lucas Herbert took home his first PGA Tour victory at the Bermuda Championship over the weekend. He was on the Korn ferry Tour until 2 months ago when he won his card in finals. The field at Bermuda was not the best due to the harsh COVID restrictions and vaccine mandate. However that didn’t stop the Australian who has now earned himself a spot in the Masters.

Olympic Sports:

  • 2022 Beijing medals have been unveiled. And Ralph Lauren reviled the Team USA closing ceremonies outfits.

  • Nathan Chen struggled during Skate America a week ago but that was all done when he got to Skate Canada. He won the event with a score of 307.18 points. Before Skate America last week, Chen had won 14 straight events (a streak that dates back to March 2018). However that was broken when he took home third place.

Soccer:

  • Carli Lloyd wore a team USA jersey for the last time as she said goodbye to the USWNT. Team USA took it seriously sending off Lloyd in style winning 6-0 against KOR. She scored 134 goals, 3rd most in women’s team history and played in 315 games. She also became the 1st American to score a goal in 4 different Olympics and her 10 scored during those 4 games is a new record among USA players. The win over KOR was the 62 consecutive unbeaten on home soil streak (56 Ws 6 ties). Lloyd exited the game in the 66th minute to a standing ovation in the stadium.
