Basketball – NBA:

  • The Heat have suspended G Dion Waiters for 10 games for conduct detrimental to the team on the charter home. Rumor has it that he consumed a THC edible and had a panic attack on the plane. This is Waiters’ 2nd suspension this season. Waiters will miss out on $1.2MM due to missed games.
  • Paul George’s number 24 was retired at his college alma mater, Fresno St and some of his Clipper teammates showed up to show their support. What a cute team bonding moment.

Football – College:

  • POTUS even showed up to Gameday this weekend for the showdown between LSU and Alabama where the Tigers came out on top. Another loss in the top 5 was Penn St to undefeated Minnesota. Minnesota was only ranked 17 despite being 8-0 due to the fact that they hadn’t beaten anyone. Expect them to shoot up the rankings this Tuesday (already the AP poll moved them up 6 spots. 3 other losses in the Top 25 also will shake up the rankings.

  • Pac 12 suspended a referee after he awarded a penalty to the wrong team in the Cal vs Washington St match up this weekend. The mis-allocated call was a hands to the face penalty on a 50 yrd kick return by Washington St. They were forced to start their drive at the 8 yrd line. The penalty was actually committed by a Cal player. That referee involved has been suspended for 1 game.

Football – NFL:

  • The Lions QB Matthew Stafford had started 136 consecutive games in the 2nd longest in the league. That was before this Sunday when Stafford went out due to broken bones in his back. There is no timeline on the injury.
  • The Dolphins get their 2nd win after the Colts QB Hoyer throws 3 interceptions.
  • The Browns and Buccaneers both snapped their 4 game loss streak (vs the Bills and Cardinals respectively).
  • AS of today, rookie Dwayne Haskins will be the starting QB for the Redskins, making Case Keenum #2 and Colt McCoy #3. Haskins started for the first time on week 9 going 15 for 22 in the loss to the Bills.
  • Charles Rogers, formerly Lions and Michigan St WR, died at the age of 38 from liver failure after he was diagnosed with cancer. The doctors had given him 30 days to live without a liver transplant.
  • Now that we are into week 9, its time for the standings in each division
    • AFC-East: Patriots

    • AFC-South: Texans
    • AFC-West: Chiefs
    • NFC- East: Cowboys and Eagles are tied

    • If Brooks Koepka withdraws from his recent injury, Rickie Fowler, Kevin Na and Kevin Kisner are expected to be among the golfers vying for that spot.
    • Phil Mickelson will miss his first international team competition since 1994.
  • International Captain’s picks for the President’s Cup are in:
    • Captain Ernie Els picked: Jason Day, Joaquin Neiman, Sung-jae Im and Adam Hadwin.

Olympic Sports:

  • Mary Cain may be a name you have seen in the news lately. Let me tell you why. Cain says that she allegedly endured abuse from her all male coaching staff at Nike Oregon Project, saying things like ‘the way to get faster is to be thinner and thinner.’ Other runners are now also coming forward with similar stories. See Amy Begley who said her coaches said she had ‘the biggest butt on the starting line.’ Cain was coached by Salazar (who now faces a 4 year doping ban as well) after she joined the Oregon Project at age 17. Nike is now investigating these claims but many think the day of reckoning is a long time overdue.
  • The #1 ranked women’s NCAA team, Oregon, beat the US National team on Saturday 93-86. This is only the 2nd college team to beat Team USA (Tennessee in 1999). Not a good look for Team USA.
  • A 20 year old gymnast died on Sunday after she was injured in an accident at her gymnastics gym 2 days previously. Melanie Coleman suffered a spinal cord injury during practice in CT.
