Basketball – College: Gonzaga moves to #1. 4 ranked match ups this week.

Basketball – NBA: Willie Naulls dies at 84.

Football – College: 6 losses in the Top 25 and it was crazy!

Football – NFL: Chargers QB sets completions record.

Golf: Phil Mickelson beats Tiger Woods for $9MM. 

Olympic Sports: Lecompte skips out. Lara Gut gets married. Shiffrin wins 3rd straight world cup slalom race.

Basketball – College:

  • Vanderbilt point guard Garland out indefinitely with meniscus injury.
  • Gonzaga moves to #1 after beating Duke.
  • James Wiseman, #1 recruit, signed with Memphis over Florida St, Kansas, Kentucky and Vanderbilt.

Basketball – NBA:

  • Willie Naulls died at 84 from a respiratory failure. He played in the NBA from 1956-66 for the Celtics and Knicks.
  • Bucks guard, Jodie Meeks, served 19 of his 25 game suspensions for failing a NBA/NBPA anti-drug program.

Football – College:

  • 6 teams went down in the Top 25.
    • #4 Michigan got slaughtered by #10 Ohio St. Harbaugh has yet to beat Ohio St even when they are ranked above them. Michigan was supposed to have the #1 defense in the country, but Ohio St managed to still score 62 points on them. Ohio St will go to the Big 10 Championship game
    • #7 LSU lost to #22 Texas A&M in 7 OTs. Yes you read that correctly, 7. It tied the most in NCAA history and was the highest scoring game of all time. Click here for the highlights, because believe me, they’re epic.
    • #8 Washington St got beat by their in-state rival #16 Washington. Washington will go to the Pac 12 Championship game.
    • #13 West Virginia went down to #6 Oklahoma after a crazy shoot out in Morgantown. Oklahoma will go to the Big 12 Championship game
    • #21 Utah St lost to #23 Boise St in a close one on late night. Although most people missed it due to the LSU/ Texas A&M game that lasted 5 hours.
  • GameDay will be live from Atlanta for SEC Championship game #1 Alabama vs #4 Georgia.

  • ACC suspended 7 players from UNC/NC St game after a brawl broke out after the game. NC St won in OT 34-28.
  • Some coaching changes have been made since for some teams season is over
    • Kliff Kingsbury got fired from Texas Tech after their loss to Baylor. Texas Tech went 35 -40 under Kingsbury over the last 6 yrs.
    • Mack Brown is currently in the running for the UNC head coaching job. More details to follow.

  • Philip Rivers, QB of LA Chargers, tied the record of 25 consecutive completed passes against the Cardinals.
  • Michigan LB Rashan Gary will forgo his senior season and enter the draft.

Golf:

  • Phil Mickelson won the $9MM PPV match play against Tiger Woods on Friday in 22 holes. He did lose $200k on the first hole after betting Woods that he would birdie it. Mickelson did win $600k of side bets as well. All of the side bet money will go to charity.
    • Turner refunded people’s $20 after the streaming went down.
  • Belgium wins the World Cup of Golf with golfers Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry.

Olympic Sports:

  • Long distance swimmer, Ben Lecompte, gave up his attempt to swim the Pacific Ocean after a storm broke his support boat mainsail. He completed 1,500 of the 5k journey.
  • Swiss skier, Lara Gut changed her name to Gut-Behrami after her recent wedding.
  • Latvian long jumper Ineta Radevica failed an Olympic doping test. She won silver in Worlds in 2011 and 4th at 2012 games.
  • Mikaela Shiffrin won a 3rd straight World Cup slalom race.
