College Football:

  • 4 teams in the Top 10 lost this weekend with 8 losses in the Top 25. #2, #6, #7, #8 all went down. It was a crazy weekend for sure. Get ready people, we’re just getting started!
  • College GameDay is in Pullman, WA for Oregon vs Washington St game.
    • This is the first time College GameDay will be at Washington St!
  • The first CFP rankings will be announced on 10/30 on ABC (usually at 7pm). Some teams should be scared going into Halloween for their playoff chances
  • Other losses in the top 25

NFL:

  • The Kansas City Chiefs lost to the NE Patriots in a close game ending 40-43 on Sunday night. However, it wasn’t just the close score that was stunning. See this viral clip to see Patriots fans pouring beer and giving Tyreek Hill the finger after he scores a TD. Why waste a whole beer? Only in Boston. That fan has now been turned over to the police.
  • The Bears-Dolphins game went into OT with the Dolphins coming out on top (31-28) after they fumbled the ball in the endzone, it was recovered by the Bears, who then missed a 45yrd FG.

mlb post season

Baseball

  • Both series are tied to make it onto the World Series
    • ALCS (American League Championship Series) between the Red Sox and Astros tied 1-1
      • Astros are currently playing on TBS!
    • NLCS (National League Championship Series) between the Brewers and Dodgers tied 1-1
      • Now, since this post was delayed a day the Brewers are up 2-1 in series.
  • The World Series begins 10/23 – 10/31 (if needed)
    • Reigning champions: Houston Astros

Golf:

  • Marc Leishman won the CIMB Classic last week with 26 under par
  • Last week began the PGA Tour’s Asian leg with tournaments in Malaysia (CIMB last week), Korea (CJ Cup this week) and ending with China (a WGC event – HSBC Champions).
    • #GFHint: WGC means World Golf Championship, these tournaments are valued higher than a regular season tournament but less than one of the 4 majors
    • Other WGC events are:
      • WGC – Mexico Championship (2/21-24)
      • WGC – Dell Technologies Match Play (3/27-31)
      • WGC – FedEx St. Jude Invitational (7/25/28)* New this year

Olympic Sports:

USA Women World Cup Qualify

  • US Women’s soccer team qualifies for World Cup with win over Jamaica 6-0 in the CONCACAF Women’s Championship in TX.

Vonn retirement

  • Lindsey Vonn announced that this World Cup season (18/19) will be her last. She will retire regardless if she breaks the record for all time World Cup wins. The current record is 86 held by a Swede, Vonn sits with 82 wins. The World Cup season includes 44 chances to win but that is spread out between the different skiing events (Slalom, Giant Slalom, Super G, Downhill, Alpine Combined and Team events).
    • For those of you who only watch skiing during the Olympics, Lindsey is known for the downhill and Super G categories, where she has 43 and 28 wins respectively. In contrast, Lindsey has 4 race victories in the Giant slalom and 2 in the slalom, with no 1st place season standings in either event.
      • City events were not counted into the total

bolt goals

  • Usain Bolt has been offered a 2 year contract from a European club that has remained a mystery thus far. He got the offer after scoring 2 goals for the Mariners against SW United.
  • Stockholm’s bid for the 2026 Olympics will not be funded by taxpayers, $0! This could put their bid in jeopardy if they cannot get the private funds. Stockholm has not hosted the Olympics since 1912.
    • Random trivia: Stockholm hosted the equestrian events during the Melbourne 1956 Olympic games. This was because Australia had a strict 6 month quarantine on horses when entering the country that they would not waive for the Olympics.
